Sheltered freshwater lake behind Guana Dam. No tides, no current — flat water paradise.
Excellent protection from ocean swells behind barrier island. Coastal dune line blocks easterly wind. Complex network of shallow marsh islands and narrow channels — navigate carefully to avoid grounding the foil. Open water sections toward the north offer longer runs.
Wind Exposure
High coastal dune line blocks east. Dense forest/marsh canopy shelters west.
Fetch & Chop Risk
Max fetch: 3.5 mi to the North-Northwest. Chop risk from: N, NW winds.
Circle the main open water area. No current, no chop. Perfect for practicing turns and speed control.
Navigate the channels north toward the deeper sections. Watch for shallow marsh edges.
Shallow areas near shoreline — watch for sandbars
Alligators present — stay away from shoreline vegetation
No motorized boats allowed — pedestrians and kayakers only
Any wind under 12 mph. Lake stays flat even when ocean is rough. Perfect beginner spot.
Small parking lot at the dam fills up on weekends. Arrive before 9 AM. Carry board down the short trail to the water. No facilities — bring water.
